Reflection
Reflecting over my journey through Ward Village and applying it to the readings was an interesting journey. The article, A Journalism Life, talked about curiosity and how curiosity is so vital to a reporter. This was very true to me because without me being curious about Ward Village, I would have never thought about observing and finding interesting things that caught my eye and deserved a photo. Also the article, The Idea Stage, it talked about how a journalist needs to find ideas that are interesting and have a "so what?" idea with it. This applied to me because I struggled to find something interesting at first until I realized there is all these things happening around me like all of the different types of people, the dog walkers, the businessmen, and the residents. All of these ideas were around me and it took a few minutes for me to really realize what was happening around me and make a story out of that. I did find a few things challenging. Trying to talk to the people who live there was difficult. Especially because I could not really knock on front doors because only people who lived there were allowed in the building. Also, it was a little hard trying to approach the people outside walking by because they all looked very busy and had places to go, or they were on a phone call, or in a conversation with someone else. Overall, I learned that it really is difficult to go up to strangers and it takes a lot of courage to do so. But in the end, taking photos in such a stunning area and learning more about it makes Ward Village even more special to me.
